Sounds like a fascinating novel. As for genre blurring, it can be great, I think. In films and books. Parasite is an example of a recent terrific film that blended social satire, black comedy, thriller, horror, and melodrama to tremendous effect. My own novels blend horror and thriller elements much of the time, tending slightly more one way or the other, depending on the story. :)
