Sounds like your father has great taste. Close Encounters just blew me away as a child. I was inwardly saying "Take me! Take me!" at the end, when Richard Dreyfuss is picked out by the aliens, and they carry him off to their mothership. John Williams's score at that point is simply magnificent.
