Sounds like your novel would be right up my street. Also, I assume you're a fan of Powell and Pressburger films if you're into magical realism, ie The Red Shoes, I Know Where I'm Going!, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, Black Narcissus, A Matter of Life and Death, etc. If not, I highly, highly recommend those films. :)
