Spectre of Springwell Forest is a full-blown ghost story chiller akin to something like The Woman in Black, perhaps, but set (mostly) in the 1970s, with a bit more mystery woven in. It's about a mother who comes to believe her young daughter is cursed after discovering a painting of a disused railway tunnel in her loft. The picture contains a sinister figure that, as days pass, gradually becomes visible in the mouth of the tunnel, then slowly emerges, getting closer and closer. The problem? Only the mother can see it.
The Irresistible Summons is about a TV producer who makes documentaries debunking the supernatural. She and her TV crew then stumble onto a genuine haunting in a video game company's corporate headquarters. This haunting has links to a tragedy during her teenage years.
I'm honestly not sure which you'd prefer to read first. Both feature supernatural horror, and I think Spectre of Springwell Forest is the more frightening of the two. But my wife, my best friend, and just about everyone I know, insist The Irresistible Summons is more frightening.
They should be both available on Kindle if you prefer ebooks. :)
