Spielberg is often underappreciated by critics. I was staggered that not one of his films was included in the most recent BFI top 100 films of all time. It's like excluding Shakespeare from a list of great plays.

As for Scorsese, I love him too. He isn't really interested in science fiction and fantasy (so you're right, no E.T. from him), but I do think Hugo is a lovely piece of work.
