The Witch King element is only present in the extended cut of The Return of the King. Most of the extra scenes in that version are superfluous, to my mind, except the stuff with Faramir and Eowyn, which I love, and which should have been in the cinema version (I would have happily lost some of the endless battle to include it).

I agree about The Hobbit. It should have been two films at most, and stuck to what was in the novel. A shame. On the other hand, there are some interesting fan edits that stick to just what is in the book, if you are so inclined to track those down. :)
