Thank you for that generous assessment. I do agree that subjective experience (and in this case, potentially age) are key factors in terms of the personal resonance of this film. I admire your passionate objectivity-can-go-to-hell-if-I-don't-enjoy-it stance, but I'm hardwired to compartmentalise all film viewing experiences. If I like something and it resonates with me, great. If not, my brain defaults to objectively assessing direction, performance, and so forth. It's an unfortunate medical condition, and those afflicted with it typically wind up as critics. I've tried to throw myself into other work (such as my novels) to avoid being entirely consumed by this affliction.
