Thank you Tim. The Lives Of Others is probably my favourite film of the 21st Century.

Roma was also wonderful and visually stunning, but I was so swept away by A Star is Born - and have been on subsequent viewings too - that I have to go with that for my 2018 choice. I think what most surprised me is that even though I really like the previous versions, I think I like the 2018 version best of all. No mean feat. But Roma is an entirely respectable alternative to Green Book. So is BlacKkKlansman for that matter.

Amour is trickier. It's brilliantly acted, written, and directed - and I hate it. Not because it's a bad film, but because it is such a tough watch. I am very pleased I saw it, but nothing would ever induce me to watch it again.

As for Argo, I enjoyed it, but I'd probably have opted for Life of Pi out of that year's nominees.
