Thanks Paul! For your information, I have a piece on UK film censorship history arriving tomorrow, which I reckon you'll find interesting, as it partly touches on the video nasties thing. Essentially in the early 1980s, a moral panic was whipped up around certain gnarlier horror titles on video, and a whole load of them got banned en masse (partly due to fears about new technology, people watching violent scenes again and again out of context, etc). Some were rereleased later in heavily cut form. Today, almost all of them are available uncut (because thank God today the BBFC treats the British public like grown-ups).
