That line about "the patriarchy" pissed me off so much. It made me wonder if the filmmakers had even seen the original. No, she wasn't kept out because of "the patriarchy". She was kept out because she was upset, terrified, and in serious danger of being killed by the demon that had taken over her daughter. Exorcists were called in as a last resort, and she rightly respected their professionalism the way one would expect the professionalism of a firefighter going into a burning building instead of the general public. It had nothing to do with any kind of patriarchy, and what's more it is an insult to the two men who literally sacrificed their lives so her daughter could be free. Wow.
I hated it.
