That term has a slightly different connotation here in the UK (essentially it means pornography).

Anyway, an excellent article on an excellent novel. My favourite film version, incidentally, is the recent non-linear Greta Gerwig take from 2019. My favourite film of that year, and as far as I'm concerned, better than all three previous cinema adaptations (review below, if you're interested). :)
