The best blockbuster film of the summer of 1989 (alongside Batman, Licence to Kill, this, and various others).
Lethal Weapon 2 is probably the best of the sequels, and all the Lethal Weapon films are at least entertaining, but none of them are as good as the original for this simple reason: We now know Riggs isn't mad. He does crazy things, yes, but in the first film, there's a real sense of danger, as though he really could go over the edge at any moment. You don't get the same sense of that here.
