The Great Gatsby is one of the greatest novels of all time, and one of my favourites, so this article gets branded blasphemy on those grounds alone. However, I must admit I also struggled to connect with The Book Thief in places. I persevered with it, and I'm glad I did, but it took a while for me to get into it.
