The interior designer comparison is fascinating. I certainly know in the film world that an editor would always wish to be invisible, as if you're conscious of their work, drawing attention to cuts, etc, in almost all cases, that constitutes a failure. Nonetheless, the greatest editors are just as vitally important, as I mention here re: Marcia Lucas, for instance. :)
