The Lord of the Rings ends happily for men, hobbits, and dwarfs, but not for the elves or Frodo. If the One Ring is taken by the Dark Lord, the entire world is covered in darkness and enslaved and the elves lose. If the One Ring is destroyed, the power of the Three Rings is broken, and the elves lose. Either way, the elves disappear from the world, which is why it’s such a heartbreaking novel despite the victories. This tragedy isn’t something Peter Jackson managed to adequately convey in his otherwise excellent film adaptation.
Anyway, thank you. If you get the chance to check out any of my novels I hope you enjoy them. :)
