The Revenant is a pretty good film (best seen at the cinema with a cold, as I had at the time, to add shivering to the sense of "immersion"). But how much "acting" did Leonardo DiCaprio need to do? He just had to look cold and miserable - not difficult considering the conditions in which they filmed, and the gruelling nature of that particular shoot. Perhaps DiCaprio felt he needed to do penance for his previous film, in which he'd snorted cocaine off an endless parade of naked women (in The Wolf of Wall Street). But in truth, his performance there was a lot better.
I like Leonardo DiCaprio. He's brilliant in many films. But I'd have given him the Oscar for other roles, not this one.
