The Sun Always Shines on TV was the only A-ha single to reach number one in the UK, in early 1986. I remember being really pleased, because Take on Me only reached two in the UK, thanks to that bloody annoying Jennifer Rush power ballad The Power of Love unfairly pipping it to the post the previous year.

As to other New Wave tracks from the 1980s I love, here are a few:

Talking Heads - Once in a Lifetime

The Pretenders - Back in a Chain Gang

New Order - True Faith

Human League - Don't You Want Me

Spandau Ballet - Only When You Leave

Tears For Fears - Pale Shelter

Duran Duran - A View to a Kill

A-ha - I've Been Losing You

Simple Minds - Glittering Prize

Talk Talk - Today

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Orange Juice - Rip it Up

The Smiths - This Charming Man

Erasure - A Little Respect

Blondie - Atomic

Pet Shop Boys - It's a Sin

Martha and the Muffins - Echo Beach

Depeche Mode - Everything Counts

Visage -Fade to Grey

China Crisis - Wishful Thinking

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams

Ultravox - Vienna

Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark - Enola Gay

Public Image Limited - This is Not a Love Song

Echo and the Bunnymen - The Killing Moon

I could go on and on (and I have, sorry).
