The whole buying in bulk with excess packaging thing is brilliantly satirised by the "Buy N Large" corporation, with it's CEO, Shelby Forthright (great name). As I said, an environmentalist message that doesn't come off as preachy, but certainly an urgent one. A horrifying vision of something like Amazon running the world.
