There are indeed counterarguments, and that is a fair point. There are lots of horror films that work brilliantly - some of them terrifyingly so - that don't feature gore. But my point is that I don't dismiss the great horror films that do include gore in an interesting and iconic way. These scenes are classics for a reason. :)
