There was an amusing censorship row with this film in the UK. It was given a 12 rating (then a mandatory minimum age entry, but this has since changed to 12A, making the 12 age minimum advisory, and allowing under-12s to attend if accompanied by an adult). However, because UK law allows local councils to override the British Board of Film Classification if they wish, loads of local councils lowered the rating to PG.
A slightly censored version of the film was subsequently resubmitted to the BBFC, and the uncut 12 rated prints were removed from circulation and replaced with this new slightly cut PG version. This version remained in circulation for years (including on DVD, etc) but eventually the uncut version was submitted again, leading to further rigmarole.
