This, as far as I'm concerned, was the recent DC Universe's biggest sin. Man of Steel had some minor interest in the scenes with Kevin Costner's Jonathan Kent (even though they way they killed him off was ridiculous, in stark contrast to the moving subtlety of Richard Donner's Superman's heart attack scene). Other than that, it was a thudding bore. Unlike Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder, the Henry Cavill/Amy Adams relationship was chemistry free, Synder stupidly omitted all the Boy Scout charm and comedy inherent in the Clark/Superman persona, and there really is only so many times you can throw General Zod through a building before it just becomes numbing.

Also, a word for future Superman filmmakers: Always use the John Williams score at the open and close. It's as iconic as the James Bond theme and no amount of Hans Zimmer chugging is ever going to top it, so don't bother trying. (By all means use a new score for the bulk of the film, like John Ottman did for the much underrated Superman Returns.)
