This, for me, is the heart of the issue. Speaking as a cineaste who loves a variety of films, styles, and stories, from all genres, and featuring people from all races, cultures, etc (of which mainstream Hollywood is just one strand), I think there needs to be considerable work at a grass roots level to invest in Black talent. As a cineaste who loves putting myself in someone else's shoes for the duration of a film, those shouldn't just be white shoes!

This is the only way things will change at an awards level, because the lack of recognition there is a symptom rather than a cause.
