This is a superb article, making a superb point. I have never, ever understood the determination of the evangelical church to demonise rock music. Even the most extreme metal bands are mostly intended as theatrical, satirical, and tongue-in-cheek.

To the main point of this article, however, the real problem comes when evangelicals try to divide sacred and secular. To me they are one and the same. As a Christian believer, I acknowledge God as creator, and that he has breathed that creativity into humanity. We therefore reflect him in our art, whether we intend to or not, to a greater or lesser extent.

For that reason, I believe all artists (not just musicians) produce their best, most engaging, most profound work, when they are not self-consciously striving to deliver a message. Just write great songs, and what is important to you (in this case U2's Christan belief) will be inherent in the music.
