This is a superbly written and argued piece. Indeed, I am persuaded to go back to the cinema again and give the film another try, because I must say, I didn't enjoy it anything like as much as you did. It was perfectly fine and entertaining, don't get me wrong, but I certainly didn't find it particularly deep, and it was predictable. I also felt the messages were cribbed from better films (The Truman Show, They Live, The Matrix, The Lego Movie, Stranger Than Fiction, Tron, Wreck-It Ralph, Ready Player One) without necessarily adding anything particularly new. Here is my (fairly short) review, if you're interested. :)

My wife and youngest child both enjoyed it far more than I did, but they are both gamers, and I am not. So they knew who all those "YouTubers" were, and got a lot more of the in-jokes. That said, I'm going to see it again. I have been known to change my mind on films with repeat viewings, so I am very open to being proved wrong on this occasion.
