This is a very interesting article, characteristically well-written, examining the religious aspects of the horror genre from precisely the opposite angle that I explored it from in this piece (see below link).
I'm a Christian - though I stress I am not American, nor do I call myself "evangelical" given the current connotations of the term (ie Trump voter as opposed to someone who believes in preaching the gospel) - and have often found profound spiritual truths in horror stories. However, I have also found that generally my fellow believers disapprove of the horror genre, which is ironic considering what you say here. I'm a staunch defender of the genre, as you are probably aware, but what you may not know is that I also defend it (when I can be bothered) to other Christians, hence the article I've linked to.
