This is an interesting series. My own approach is to write 1,000 words per day on my current novel or short story, at least. But if I'm in a flow, I don't stop. If I'm revising a manuscript, I set aside at least an hour per day to work on it, which is how long it takes me to write 1,000 words of fiction, on average. Also, I do this first thing, normally quite early in the morning.
I should add that I'm a control freak planner, so any story I write has character profiles, outlines, research as needed, etc. I'm not like Stephen King and more like JK Rowling in that respect. :)
