This is beautiful and brilliant. The central idea (with something in an image getting closer and closer that only the protagonist can see) is similar to an idea I included in my supernatural gothic mystery novel Spectre of Springwell Forest (though the treatment is radically, radically different - a sinister figure emerging from a disused railway tunnel in a mysterious painting).
