This sounds like a splendid (and generous) competition, but I'm not sure I qualify at present, Arpad, as I am not published in First Line Fiction or a writer there (though I’d certainly like to be).

More seriously, I'm currently up to my eyeballs in writing the first draft of my next novel, and none of my unpublished completed short stories I presently have sitting on my shelf are short enough for this competition (they are typically between 10,000 and 15,000 words). Nor could they be adapted so they fit the first line requirement.
