Those are always the worst thing you can look at. In fact, I ignore virtually all news media as a matter of routine (a brief glance at BBC headlines, no more than once every day or two, for no more than ten minutes, and that is it). My mental health is far better as a result.
News media isn't reality. It's a distortion of worst case scenarios and speculations specially filtered for optimal fear-mongering in the name of chasing ratings, views, clicks, likes, and whatnot. News media is bad enough in the UK in this respect, but in the US it is an abomination. Hence my rather Amish views on it. Come out from among them and be ye separate, etc...
Yes, there are serious problems in the world. But fretting over what you cannot fix or what may or may not happen, in the name of being "informed", is lunacy, hence why I stay offline most of the time and put my energies into writing (mostly fiction) instead. :)
