Time management is essential, especially when getting sucked into the online vortex. My schedules are a complex, highly planned balance, but in broad terms, here's what I do most days:

1) Write at least 1,000 words of whatever fiction project I'm working on. Alternatively, I spend an equivalent amount of time rewriting, editing, polishing, or working on related tasks (eg pitches, letters to agents, and so forth).

2) Write at least one article for Medium or any other place I'm submitting work.

Only then will I go on Medium or social media, to read other articles, clap, comment, reply to comments, and so forth.

(Although I didn't do that today, because technically I'm on holiday - again, also planned.)
