To be clear on Braveheart: I enjoy the film. But it's historically utter nonsense. It's not just who is the goodie and who is the baddie (Edward the Longshanks was a vile king and thoroughly deserves to be the villain). It's more to do with lunatic touches like having Wallace sleep with the French Princess and imply that he'll have a royal heir as a result, when I think she was only a toddler at the time. That sort of thing.

But I don't care: Braveheart is myth-making. It's a rousing watch. But I don't think it should have won Best Picture (regardless of aggregate statistics and whatnot - popularity is not an indicator of quality or lack of, to my mind).
