To be fair, There Will Be Blood, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Eastern Promises, and No Country For Old Men (the films to which I assume he was referring) are damn good. :)
But some Oscar nominated films are intensely depressing - Foxcatcher, Amour, Son of Saul, etc are films only a critic could love. Brilliantly acted and directed perhaps, and I'm very glad to have seen them once, but never again.
