True, but the Japanese didn't seem to have a problem with it. On the contrary, I saw a video of vox pops on the streets of Tokyo where everyone interviewed considered it an honour that Hollywood had remade the film, that Johansson was a great actress, and when it was explained to them, they couldn't get their heads around why "whitewashing" would be an issue. Conversely, the Japanese have sometimes been known to remake Hollywood films (Unforgiven for instance, and actually not a bad remake/reinvention).
