Ultimately this is a personal decision, and a complicated one, as you point out here. Personal history is undoubtedly a factor. I completely get your point about Springsteen. I'd feel the same way about any number of authors or film directors I admire (and indeed, I continue to watch films directed by Roman Polanski without apology, without condoning what he did in any way).
