Up there with John Williams's work on the Star Wars films, as far as I'm concerned.

Lord of the Rings — Howard Shore. It’s hard to pinpoint any central reason why this collection of scores is as good as it is. Perhaps it’s the way that musical themes are carried over across hours of screen time, always with a new, heart-rending effect….perhaps it’s just incredible music for incredible movies. Definitely an all-time classic.
