Very interesting point of comparison.

The premise of The Substance is very close to that of Sunset Boulevard, but, while Norma Desmond is primarily concerned with her acting career, The Substance’s Elisabeth Sparkle is only concerned with remaining in the spotlight, because, once you’re out of the spotlight, it’s as though you don’t even exist.
