Needless to say, I despair of this idiocy. Like you, I (mostly) don't blame the students, but if those studying English literature can't handle fishing in Hemingway, frankly they have no business being in higher education in the first place. As for the teachers, they have nothing but my utmost contempt for this mollycoddling nonsense.
