Well, firstly bear in mind I'm going by UK release dates, so both The Whale and Tár were 2023 releases for me. I didn't care for the former but I loved the latter.
However, my favourite film of 2022 was Aftersun. Not a film for everyone, and I get why some people didn't like it, but I was profoundly moved for reasons I struggled to articulate (though I did my best in this review).
