Well, obviously I disagree (for reasons I've stated in my article). I think this remake is well acted and directed but I much preferred the unease of the original. The performances pulled me in completely in that one, and the ending horrified me. I have met people who are that passive in the face of such appalling things, and it is often because they are simply terrified. I don't think that's a leap in logic. Cowardice and people freezing when faced with such horrors is a real thing.
Which brings me to my next point: Yes, I think on a metaphorical level, you have interpreted the politics of the film correctly. It is a contentious message, no question, but there is considerable unease in European nations over this issue, which is why Europe is seeing a rise in far-right groups. It is all very alarming.
