Westerns have sometimes been nominated, but they seldom win, and obviously the westerns I mentioned in this article were entirely overlooked. Western Best Picture Winners: Cimarron (1931), hardly a classic, and of course, Dances with Wolves (1991) and Unforgiven (1992). Both the latter were deserving, to my mind, though I think I'd have given Martin Scorsese Best Director (for Goodfellas) and Dances with Wolves Best Picture. :)
