We've lost a lot, I quite agree. In fact, on a totally separate note, I've got a novel out this Friday - a fantasy tale set in the Dark Ages called Ravenseed - and someone asked who I'd want to make a film of the book (hypothetically). I immediately said John Boorman, because I thought of Excalibur and the lovely use of real, dirt-under-the-fingernails forests, mountains, rivers, and other landscapes without a single CGI pixel in them. Realistically, Boorman will never make a film of my novel, but whoever does should take a Christopher Nolan approach to CGI and use it minimally or not at all, if possible (not sure Christopher Nolan would want to direct, mind you - the novel doesn't feature enough non-linear jiggery pokery for that).
