What would I nominate from recent cinema (ie the 21st Century)? Allowing for my ten year rule, I'd say Christopher Nolan is overdue a place on the list, probably for Inception or Batman Begins. I'd also nominate Oldboy, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, There Will Be Blood, Un Prophète, The Tree of Life, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and something from Pixar (possibly Inside Out or Wall-E). Oh, and Spirited Away.

If you must have a Marvel film, I'd go with Avengers Assemble.
