Whilst I still think he deserved to win for Oppenheimer, your general point about the Academy's disdain for comedy is spot-on. I think the Academy (and also critics) dislike comedy because one cannot pontificate over it to a great extent. For instance, we could discuss the relative merits of Citizen Kane until we were blue in the face, but if you said to me "Monty Python and the Holy Grail isn't funny" I'd simply pity you and walk away. With comedy, people either laugh or they don't, and if they laugh, that ends all arguments. :)
