Gallienus then declared, “This fraud deceived people, and now he has become a victim of deception. For the pleasure he has given us, I propose we spare his life!” In the end, the swindler was pardoned, and the Romans continued to recount this story with pleasure, praising their emperor’s mercy and sense of humor.
