Yes, he can indeed be annoying. I find his rather ignorant stance on Israel a particular irritation. He's entitled to his political views of course (however much they make lack nuance) but it annoys me when he and others of his ilk try to bully other artists who choose to perform in Israel. Thankfully, artists like Radiohead, Pet Shop Boys, Nick Cave, and various others don't see things the same way, and perform in Israel regardless of his harassment.

But to your central question: Yes, I am a separate art from artist extremist. I am perfectly capable of enjoying music, films, novels etc without hand-wringing over real life issues. How much one can do this is probably down to personality, temperament, and other factors, but I find it pretty easy.

My views on this matter are well documented in detail elsewhere (here and here, for instance) and I make no apology whatsoever for enjoying films by Roman Polanski and Woody Allen, novels by JK Rowling, or music by Michael Jackson (or Pink Floyd for that matter).
