Yes, I saw the 3-D Phantom Menace. It wasn't any better at all, and I'm really not a fan of 3-D, especially converted 3-D. But that's another discussion.

The best thing in the prequels is Ian McDiarmid, as you rightly point out. He did his best with the material he was given.
