Yes, I suppose that's a fair point. My criteria for this article was considerable distance in years between films, more than anything.

Unlike the other novels you mention, I've not read The Color of Money. I shall have to rectify that now, as I'm curious.

I didn't realise that about Soldier, although I don't remember the film very well. Even so, it doesn't really qualify it as a sequel any more than Ewoks: Caravan of Courage would constitute a direct sequel to Return of the Jedi, purely for being set in the same universe.

As for the King/Kubrick business, I'm fully aware of King's dislike for Kubrick's vision, so am not surprised he did this. Personally, I've always liked both the novel and the film (and their respective sequels in either medium), as they are each very much their own beasts. But my favourite is Kubrick's take on The Shining, blasphemous as that may be to King fans. :)
