Yes, some of these are crap (especially We Are the World).

Preferring not to be negative, I actually think 1985 is a bloody amazing year for music. A few gems from my personal favourite singles of that year (based on UK release dates/chart positions):

A-ha - Take on Me (criminally beaten to number one in the UK by Jennifer Rush's ghastly The Power of Love)

Baltimora - Tarzan Boy (a cracking one hit wonder)

Madonna - Into the Groove (Her first UK number one)

Phil Collins/Phil Bailey - Easy Lover (easily my favourite Phil Collins song - I'm generally not a fan, but this one is irresistible)

Colonel Abrams - Trapped

Wham! - I'm Your Man (I make no apology for liking Wham!)

Duran Duran - A View to a Kill (my all-time favourite Bond song)

Katrina and the Waves - Walking on Sunshine

Midge Ure - If I Was

Marillion - Kayleigh

Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me

Kate Bush - Running up that Hill

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - So in Love

Harold Faltermeyer - Axel F

Dire Straits - Money For Nothing

Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls (not sure whether this should be 1985 as this reached the top ten that year, but it climbed to number one in early 1986)

Elton John - Nikita

U2 - The Unforgettable Fire

Don Henley - The Boys of Summer

Eurythmics - There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)

Feargal Sharkey - A Good Heart

Strawberry Switchblade - Since Yesterday

Scritti Politti - The Word Girl

Whitney Houston - Saving All My Love for You

Talking Heads - Road to Nowhere

Paul Hardcastle - 19 (I still haven't forgiven this for keeping Duran Duran off number one, but I still like it for nostalgic reasons)

Tears for Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World

Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Right Round

Howard Jones - Things Can Only Get Better

Go West - Call Me

I could go on. There are tons of singles I love from that year. :)
