You'd like what my youngest son says about all this. He dislikes evangelical type churches because they are "too much like pop concerts with peace and love hippie types". He prefers the dramatic austerity of traditional services, with the theatricality you describe. My response? Whatever connects you with God is good. There is no one way to do any of this. God makes us all different for a reason.

I still don't believe in Purgatory or transubstantiation though.
