Also, I understand entirely what you mean about nervous laughter. I get it when something sad happens - it's often a response because if you don't laugh you cry. It happened at my father's funeral, to very embarrassing effect (although it was also very funny - I'll tell you the story another time). I also have a very dark sense of humour in any case, but that's slightly different, and again it gets me into trouble at times.
